Laser (acronym - Light
Amplification by the Stimulated Emission of Radiation) BACC can
boast of a sophisticated laser equipment to perform surgeries.
Laser
energy is generated by manipulation of the atomic structure of
molecules (carbon dioxide) in a laser tube. This energy is then
focused on tissues either to coagulate or vaporize. In coagulation
the tissues are desiccated but not removed. In vaporization, as
the term implies, tissues are turned into smoke, thereby removing
an entire lesion.
In
the right hands laser surgery offers the advantage of a bloodless
field during surgery, decreased incidence of postoperative complications
such as bleeding or infection and quicker healing. Only local
anesthesia is used. In gynecology it is used in tubal surgery,
endometrioses, for drilling the ovaries in polycstic ovary disease
and in preinvasive cancers of the genital tract. It is used in
infertility cases in assisted hatching of the egg (link).
