ENDOSCOPY

This division focuses on the use of endoscopes for diagnosis and treatment. On hand are the laparoscope and hysteroscope.

The laparoscope is a miniature telescope with a light source used to perform laparoscopy. The purpose is to visualize all the organs in the abdominal cavity and the pelvis. Under anesthesia the laparoscope is introduced through a small hole into the abdominal cavity, for a first hand glimpse. Apart from diagnosis the laparoscope is provided with various accessories for treatment of conditions like polycystic ovaries, endometrioses etc.

The hysteroscope is also a small telescope with a light source to view the uterine cavity in the process termed hysteroscopy. The instrument is passed into the uterine cavity through the cervical opening. Anesthesia may or may not be required. The lining of the uterine cavity can be seen. Abnormalities like masses and adhesions can be visualized and selectively removed via the hysteroscope. The openings of the fallopian tubes into the uterus can also be seen.
