Donor
programs
The donor identity is kept in strict confidence at BACC and never
revealed to the couple. Only a description and the medical history
of the donor may be provided.
Oocyte (egg) donor :
With the advent and increasing use of IVF, oocyte donation has
given hope to many a woman who are unable to have a child, either
because their ovaries have failed, malformed or been removed.
This also comes as a blessing to those women who have an inheritable
genetic disorder or whose ovaries are inaccessible. The donors
are screened, tested and counseled regarding their role. After
monitoring, eggs are retrieved in the same way as for other techniques.
Sperm donor : (mentioned
under AID)
Embryo donors :
The embryo is obtained from counseled and consented donors of
IVF programs. Hence the child to be born has no genetic resemblance
to the couple accepting the embryo. Protocols for selection and
transfer are same as for gamete donors. This procedure is accepted
by menopausal or perimenopausal women with a subfertile partner
or genetic disease carriers.
