The International Federation of Obstetrics & Gynecology (FIGO) as part of its ongoing efforts to improve women's health internationally, initiated a project with the aim of using international human rights to improve women's reproductive and sexual health through collaboration, education and advocacy. Entitled the "Women's Sexual & Reproductive Rights Project (WSRR)", it emphasizes the role of the Ob-Gyn profession in the respect, protection and implementation of human rights related to women's sexual and reproductive health. India was one of the six countries in the world selected for this FIGO initiative to be executed by the Federation of Obstetric & Gynecological Societies of India (FOGSI). Dr.Kamini A. Rao was appointed Co-coordinator of the WSRR Project. Several workshops were held in propagation of the above. The Safe Abortion Workshop laid emphasis on "every woman must have the right to choose pregnancy and safe motherhood". FOGSI plays an important role in raising awareness, promoting safe policies and practices, and interacting with the government and NGOs to promote safe abortion. The public forum had a blend of religious leaders, government officials, doctors, women's activists and the public. They all echoed a cohesive influence against female feticide, unsafe motherhood and gender discrimination. The highlight of the Forum was a public oath taking by all the gynecologists present "To refrain from Sex Determination". Issues prioritized were - making abortion safe and accessible, prevention of anemia, Adolescent Reproductive and Sexual Health, preventing HIV/AIDS, and female feticide - countering the menace
