Assessment of the safety and acceptability of DEPO-PROVERA
150 mg given every three months for contraception in Indian
women.
This
was a multi-center open-label prospective trial (1100 subjects),
where BACC was one of the 10 participating centers in India.
It was concluded that DEPO-PROVERA as a contraceptive is safe
and effective and acceptable after reasonable counseling.
- Duphastone
(Dydrogesterone) study project.
This study was conducted in three parts.
Part I - 38 patients, effects of duphastone on dysfunctional
uterine bleeding associated with polycystic ovarian disease.
Part II - 30 patients, effects of duphastone on programming
of menstrual cycles prior to procedures in infertility work-up
and treatment. Par
III - 45 patients, effects of duphastone on mild and minimal
endometrioses. The results of this study are awaited.

DOUBLE BLIND RANDOMISED CLINICAL STUDY ON GARCINIA (HCA) VERSUS
PLACEBO IN THE TREATMENT OF OBESITY IN INDIAN PATIENTS
Garcinia is a wild plant found in the Malabar and Konkan coasts
of India. Hydroxy Citric Acid (HCA) extracted from Garcinia,
has been shown to inhibit fat production, suppress appetite
as well as indirectly help in burning of fat.
A study was conducted at Bangalore Assisted Conception Centre
to evaluate the efficacy and safety of Garcinia (HCA) for body
weight loss in obese Indian patients.
A total of 75 patients were recruited and randomized to receive
double blind therapy in order to achieve the required sample
size of 50. Selection criteria included patients of either sex,
between 18 to 65 years of age, with a BMI > 25. The total duration
of therapy with Garcinia was 6 months (24 weeks). The data is
under process and results of the study are awaited
